An Ascentic of a Diffenent Make

Sree Vidyadhiraja Theerthapada Swamikal (1853-1924) popularly known as Sree Chattampi Swamikal, was a great savant of a Sanyasin with a remarkably modern mind and was a visionary whose message was abundantly exemplified through his austere and serene life itself. He was an accomplished preceptor but was surely not a prisoner of fosilised rthodoxy. He was infact a man-maker and not an institution builder. He was an ardent exponent of the great Renaissance Movement (Navodhana Prasthanam) of Kerala. The most illustrious memmorial to this great Guruji is undoubtedly the century old Hindu Matha Maha Mandalam at Ayroor and its annual week long convention, Hindu Matha Parishat held on the vest sand bed of river Pampa at Cherukolpuzha.

Vidyadhiraja Samskarika Kendram (Cultural Centre)

The grand vision of swamiji for a spiritually enriched and socially empowered society is no doubt multi-dimentional in real terms. Spiritual throughts and pursuits d occupy the pride of place in his scheme of things but certainly not the entire gamut The Matha Parishat is designed to take care of the spiritual portfolio of his vision. To bring the attention to those essential aspects, other than purely spiritual Maha Mandalam has given shape recently for a new off-shoot by name Vidyadhiraja Samskarika Kendram (Cultural Centre).

Vidyadhiraja Samskarika Kendram (Cultural Centre) was formally inaugurated by H.H.Satguru Sree Bodhinatha Velan Swamikal, head of the Kauai Adheenam of Hawaii, USA on 4th Feb 2008.

The Centre is planned to constitute the following functional wing

1. The academic wings : This is meant to provide facilities to run academic courses, to conduct Camps, Seminars, work shopes etc as well as to do research in appropriate areas. This is expected to draw strength from a band of competent resource persons as well as from a well equipped library with adequate provision for documentation.

2. The publication wing : It is primarly meant to upgrade its publication Pampa Theertham to a standard level. This has to be augmented with a state of the art reprography unit. This is also expected to work as a disseminating centre for the ideals and teachings of Sree Vidyadhiraja.

3. Techno-Dharmic interface wing: It is to promise studies and to act where ever necessary in areas of techno-dharmic interfaces such as enviornmental degradation, ecological imbalances,Bio diversity damages, climate change etc.

4. A competition wing: It is also organse regularly competitions for school going children at local and state level o n various socially and culturally relevant themes.

5. A service wing : It is to take up in due course socially potential projects like a Senior Citizens Home, an Orphanage, group marriage scheme etc focussed on the needy and marginalised sections of the society.

Samskarika Kendra Mandiram

The need to have seperate premises to accommodate and accomplish the various activities of the centre was soon realised. To establish this premises named as ‘Samskarika Kendra Mandiram’ a suitable plot of land on the northern bank of river Pampa nad adjacent to Vidyadhiraja Nagar, was graciously donated by Puliyodikalayil family. Soon after plans were drawn up for a three storeied building, facing the river, with built-in facilities for a conference half a dozen boarding rooms, space for library kitchen and dining hall, fice space.

On February 10 2008 the foundation stone a for this Mandiram was laid by Sri.T.K.A Nair, principal secretary to the prime minister of India. The estimate for the new building was prepared and an expenditure to the tune of rupees one core (as of to-day) is seriously staring at us now. The building work was commenced in July 2008 and the ground floor is under construction nw. Our target is to make the completed structure ready to celebrate the centenary of the parishar in February 2012.

Obviously this is no easy task. But we are certainly optimistic in the name of our revered Guruji and for the purpose of a lofty cause, we do make our earnest appeal to all our friends and benefactors spread all over the world to contribute librally and make it possible to raise a befitting memmorial to swamiji at Cherukolpuzha at the earlist.
