Welcome

Hindumatha Mahamandalam

The Hindu Society of the Nineteen Century Kerala was in the throes of severe spiritual decadence. The lofty Hindu traditions and its philosophical moorings were sadly side tracked by barren rituals and superstitious customes. Social evils like casteism and untouchability with all its ugly faces ruled the roost, drow. Hindumatha Mahamandalam owes its origin to Hindumatha Parishat, which itself was inspired by the renaissance movement spear headed by two great savants in earstwhile Travancore state, namely Vidhyadhiraja Chattampi Swamikal and Sree Narayana Guru, in late 19th Centuary and early 20th Centuary. Both of them were contemporaries and shared a vision of eradicating casteism and untouchability practices prevalent in Hindu Society in those days. In particular, Chattampi Swamikal emphasized the right of every Hindu to learn and preach the Vedas, Upanishads,Epics and Puranas of Hinduism. A new dimension was added to the Objectives of renaissance movement when social reformers like Mannath Padmanabhan, K Kellappan etc.. exhorted Hindu Society to cut down on pomp and pageantry of temple festivals and utilize the savings to build schools and provide educational facilities to the children of all castes, so as to make them earn their livelihood. One of the earliest group of people to pay heed to this advice was the Pradeshika Nair Samajam of Ayroor village.
